It’s interesting to see that in this scene, Thor smiles at Loki. While it does turn into a grimace as he’s trying to pull Loki up, it does start out as a smile. So even as Loki is hanging on for dear life, even though the both of them were nearly killed by falling into the abyss together, Thor still tries to say 'don't worry, I've got you.'
Because they’ve gone through everything and they’ve always survived. Both of them. And just a moment after Thor smiles, he sees that Loki doesn’t want that anymore. It’s too late for reassurance.
